Who we are

TripTotal is made by 4Apps, a company in Latvia. You can reach us by email at info@4apps.lv.

What we collect and why

• Your account name and email address, to run your account.
• The trip and expense data you enter, including the names you give the other members and any notes you write, to provide the service and to show it to the members of that trip.
• Your subscription status and the purchase identifiers the stores give us, to know whether your plan is active. We never receive card details; Apple and Google keep those.
• An identifier the app generates on your device when it is installed, to sync that device.
• Server logs with IP addresses, kept for a short time for security.

Location and maps

Attaching the place to an expense is off until you turn it on in Settings, where the app then asks the phone for permission. With it on, a new expense is saved with the coordinates of one location reading taken while you enter it, and how accurate the phone said that reading was; nothing is recorded in the background, and you can remove the place before you save. The map images come from Mapbox, which sees the area of the map being drawn and your device's IP address. The expenses and the places they carry are never sent to Mapbox or to anyone else.

What we do not do

There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking SDKs in the app. We do not sell your data, and we share it only with the providers that host the service, process subscriptions and serve the map images. The camera is used only to read invite QR codes; the frames are never stored and never leave your device.

Where it is stored

On servers in the European Union, at Hetzner in Finland. Everything sent between the app and the server is encrypted in transit.

Sharing with trip members

What you enter in a trip is visible to every member of that trip.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account for as long as you have one. You can delete it in the app under Settings, then Delete account, or on the account deletion page. Your name, email address and password are removed immediately and the account can no longer sign in. What you entered in a trip outlives the account: the trips and expenses, titles and notes included, stay in the trips they belong to, because the other members share them, and the member names stay with them so the balances remain whole, no longer linked to any account. Subscription purchase records are kept for refunds and tax. The deletion happens at once and cannot be undone.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it and ask us to delete it. You can also complain to the Latvian Data State Inspectorate, Datu valsts inspekcija.

Children

TripTotal is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

When this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top of it.
